Priscilla of Boston
An Elegant Affair, top wedding planning company in Raleigh, was approached by Priscilla of Boston to provide six unique venues for weddings in Raleigh so that they can provide wedding gowns that reflect these unique venues. Based on our extensive experience in the wedding planning field, we provided these unique venues to Priscilla of Boston and Kimberly Minor, Chief fashion Strategist for Priscilla of Boson paired each unique location with a dress that reflects the venue’s setting.
The new Priscilla of Boston store is opening on June 21, 2010 in Cameron Village. The gowns are stunning and An Elegant Affair is honored to be part of this venture.

Although An Elegant Affair had a great 2009, I know many small businesses
did not fair so well. Having said that, I too am glad that 2009 is officially over. I am, however, looking forward with optimism to 2010. There is always something great about the start of a new year, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Its almost like being re-born. I love to get organized for the new year and I am always filled with great, new ideas for my business and for my brides.
Couples are still planning weddings and while they may need to find more creative ways to stretch a dollar, they are enthusiastic about planning. I think it gives a couple even more reason to think of ways to personalize their weddings that reflect their style and interests without breaking the bank.
A few well-placed “special” items can lend a unique quality to the event such as the photo shown here of two of the bride’s favorite pets replicated in flowers. Yes, this is an expensive item but what a wow! impact it had on the guests. Doing something like this and placing it where the guests can see it as they arrive for cocktails infused the event with a hint of playfulness that set the tone for the rest of the reception. It also served as a great conversation piece and ice breaker, getting guests to laugh and chat with each other about the “flower” dogs on the way into the cocktail hour. Even if the rest of the flowers are more modest, one or two impact pieces are important.
As we look forward to a new year, lets put our thinking caps on and come up with new, unique ways to plan one of the most important events in your life.

I had a wonderful wedding this weekend at Prestonwood Country Club. The bride had the most perfect day I have ever seen. Weather was sunny and mild with no humidity ~ in short ~ the most fabulous day!
The ceremony and reception were both held in the lovely ballroom at Prestonwood. They have a wonderful, hardworking staff who sprang into action as soon as the ceremony ended. Opening the air wall and moving all the ceremony chairs. They moved all the dining tables into place quickly and efficiently. I am so impressed with their hard work and dedication.
Meanwhile, the guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the terrace and the wedding party had photos taken outside and on the golf course.
After dinner, everyone rocked to the music of The Gentlemen and Their Lady, they had everyone up and moving! They were terrific. Note: a good band can make or break the wedding reception. The band made it a smashing success. Brides are always concerned that a live band will not be able to provide the variety that a DJ can. In my experience, a good cover band can do anything! This band proved it. I know, however, that bands are not part of everyone’s budget. This is where the couple have to decide what the priorities are for their wedding.
The bride surprised the groom with a cigar bar and bourbon after dinner on the terrace. He loved it as did his groomsmen. It was a big hit.
All in all, this was one of my favorite weddings, because the families were so wonderful to work with. The bride and groom couldn’t have been nicer. This is what makes me happy to be able to do what I love!
