Special Touches

January 17th, 2009

In November 2008, I did a wonderful wedding and one of the special touches (there were many) was a sushi bar.  We had an ice sculpture lit from underneath and two large tiers with flowers at the top.  On the tiers was an assortment of sushi.  It was a huge hit!  The staff had a hard time keeping it stocked!

One of the nice things about it was that the guests gathered around to taste the sushi and being in close proximity to each other, laughed and chatted.  It was (excuse the pun) an “ice breaker”.

Welcome 2009

January 13th, 2009

I know, I know, I know ~ you are all thinking what is there to welcome?  The economy is in tatters, stock market is down and many jobs are being lost.  What is there to look forward to?  Americans are very resilient. Give us a challenge and we always rise to the occasion.  We may complain loudly but in the end we adapt.

Brides and grooms will continue with their plans for marriage and a future together.  They may need to modify their expectations.  They may not be able to have the house of their dreams right away.  However, in the long run, I truly believe we will be better off.  We will see that the things in life are are important do not require money: family, friends and good health.  Do I sound likea “Pollyanna”?  I am.  I feel that the press tries very hard to put a negative “spin” on everything.  We are inundated with negativity in the newspapers, news magazines and on the TV news programs.

What would happen if we chose not to listen?  We know what is going on.  We are intelligent and for the most part, informed.  We can decide for ourselves what really is the truth of the situation.  I feel manipulated by the press.  We don’t need to be told how we should feel or what we should do in the current economic crisis.  We need to be strong and indepent, make our own decisions on how we should, as individuals, proceed.

People will still get married and have children.  They will still buy homes.  They may have to adjust their expectations but that is not necessarily a bad thing.  we will realize that we can do with a lot less than we thought we could and still be happy.  Happiness if not dictated by the number of cars in the driveway or the number of trips we take each year.  It is dictated by our own sense of peace, well-being, love of our family, good health and our faith.

Yes, call me a “Pollyanna”, I don’t mind.
